Biography
Sergio Corrieri (also credited as Sergio Lucio Corrieri Hernández) was a Cuban actor. He was born on 2 March 1939 in Havana and died there on 29 February 2008.
He appeared in I Am Cuba (1964) as Alberto and in Memories of Underdevelopment (1968) as Sergio Carmona Mendoyo. He won the award for Best Actor at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival for his role in The Man from Maisinicu (1973). Corrieri trained in theatre and was a founder of the Grupo Teatro Estudio and the Grupo Teatro Escambray. He worked with the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) from its establishment in 1959, appearing in a total of around twelve films.
From the 1980s he held senior positions in Cuban cultural and political organisations, including membership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (from 1980) and head of its culture department (from 1987). He served as president of the Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos (ICAP) from 1990 until his death.
