Biography
Shamim Sarif (born 24 September 1969) is a British novelist, screenwriter and film director. She was born in London to parents of Indian South African heritage and studied English literature at Royal Holloway, University of London, followed by a master's degree at Boston University.
Sarif has written and directed feature films adapted from her own novels, including The World Unseen (2007), I Can't Think Straight (2008) and Despite the Falling Snow (2016). She also wrote and directed the feature Polarized (2023). With her wife Hanan Kattan she co-founded the production company Enlightenment Productions. Her television directing credits include an episode of the Netflix series You (2018).
She was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2019 and is a member of BAFTA and the Directors Guild of Canada.
