Biography
Shih Kien (also credited as Shek Kin, Sek Kin or Shih Chien) was a Hong Kong-based Chinese actor and martial artist. He was born Shek Wing-cheung on 1 January 1913 in Shigang Village, Panyu, Guangdong, China, and died in Hong Kong on 3 June 2009.
He began working in the film industry in 1939 as a makeup artist and made his acting debut the following year. Shih became known in the 1950s and 1960s for playing villains in wuxia and martial arts films, appearing in many entries in the Wong Fei Hung series and other productions such as the Fong Sai Yuk films and Buddha's Palm. He is best known internationally for his role as the main villain Han in Enter the Dragon (1973).
In later decades he continued acting in films and television series, including The Young Master (1980) and A Better Tomorrow III: Love and Death in Saigon (1989). He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hong Kong Film Critics' Association in 1996 and the Professional Achievement Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2003.
