Biography
Shizuo Yamanouchi (山内静夫) was a Japanese film producer. Born on 13 June 1925 in Kamakura, he died on 15 August 2021. After graduating from Keio University in 1948 he joined Shochiku’s Ofuna studio and worked in production.
He produced several of Yasujirō Ozu’s late films for Shochiku, including Early Spring (1956), Equinox Flower (1958), Late Autumn (1960) and An Autumn Afternoon (1962). He also produced Assassination (1964) and Samurai Spy (1965).
Yamanouchi later became a Shochiku executive and served as director of the Kamakura Bungakukan literary museum. He received the Japan Academy Prize for Excellent Work for Rikyu (1989) and the Fujimoto Prize Special Award.
