Biography
Sigge Fürst was a Swedish actor who appeared in more than 130 films between 1931 and 1981. Born Karl Sigurd Tore Fürst in Stockholm, he trained at the Police Academy and worked as a constable from 1927 to 1930 before entering the theatre. His screen debut came in Victor Sjöström’s Markurells i Wadköping (1931).
He became known for roles in Ingmar Bergman films, including Johan in Summer with Monika (1953), the priest in A Lesson in Love (1954), Filip in Shame (1968) and Verner in The Passion of Anna (1969). From 1946 he hosted the long-running radio programme Frukostklubben until 1978. Bergman later engaged him at the Royal Dramatic Theatre, where he remained associated from the 1960s.
