Biography
Sigmund Romberg was a Hungarian-born American composer. Born in Nagykanizsa, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary) on 29 July 1887, he studied engineering and composition in Vienna before moving to New York in 1909. He worked as a staff composer for the Shubert brothers and became known for his operettas.
His stage works include Maytime (1917), Blossom Time (1921), The Student Prince (1924), The Desert Song (1926) and The New Moon (1928). Romberg also composed film scores, including the music for Foolish Wives (1922). He died in New York on 9 November 1951.
