Biography
Soi Cheang, also credited as Cheang Pou-soi, Sui Cheang and Bob Cheng, is a Macau-born Hong Kong film director, screenwriter and producer. He began his career in the early 1990s as a script supervisor and assistant director, working with filmmakers including Ringo Lam, before directing his first features in 1999.
Cheang is known for action and crime films such as Accident (2009), Motorway (2012), Limbo (2021), Mad Fate (2023) and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (2024). Several of these involved crew associated with Milkyway Image, the production company founded by Johnnie To. He has also directed the The Monkey King film trilogy (2014–2018).
His work has screened at festivals including Venice, Berlin and Cannes. He has received multiple Hong Kong Film Award nominations for Best Director and won for Mad Fate and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.
