Biography
Sonam Phuntsok is a Tibetan actor and performing artist based in the exile community in India. He is known for portraying Reting Rinpoche in Martin Scorsese's Kundun (1997) and for his role as Penjor in Dreaming Lhasa (2005).
Phuntsok joined the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) as a boy and later worked there as an instructor. He has performed with TIPA in sixteen countries and toured the United States in 1991. In 1993 he received a Fulbright scholarship and studied stage production, lighting design and modern dance at Middlebury College in Vermont. He was born in India to mixed-race parents.
