Biography
Steffen Thum is a German composer for film, television, video games and advertising. Born on 8 June 1988, he began working in film scoring after studying music and joined Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions in Los Angeles in 2014, where he collaborated for six years with Zimmer and composer Lorne Balfe on additional music.
Thum is credited as composer on Crawl (2019, with Max Aruj), iBoy (2017), Slingshot (2024), Stockholm Bloodbath (2023), Betrayal (2023) and The Old Guard 2 (2025). He provided additional music or arrangements for Top Gun: Maverick (2022), Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), Twisters (2024) and Alien: Romulus (2024), among many other titles. He is also credited on Blades of the Guardians (2026).
In 2022 Thum was one of ten composers selected for the Cannes Film Festival “Spot the Composer” programme.
