Biography
Stella Adler was an American actress and acting teacher. Born in New York City on 10 February 1901, she came from a family prominent in the Yiddish theatre and began performing as a child. She studied the Stanislavski system at the American Laboratory Theatre and later met Konstantin Stanislavski in Paris.
Adler appeared in a small number of films, including Love on Toast (1937), Shadow of the Thin Man (1941) as Claire Porter, and My Girl Tisa (1948). She was a member of the Group Theatre before founding the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting in New York in 1949, where she taught for many decades. She died in Los Angeles on 21 December 1992.
