Biography
Stephen Shields is an Irish screenwriter. Born in Dublin in 1987, he began his career after winning RTÉ Storyland in 2010 with the web series Zombie Bashers. He subsequently wrote for RTÉ comedy programmes including The Republic of Telly, where he was the longest-serving writer, as well as Callan's Kicks and Des Bishop: This Is Ireland. He also created and wrote 32 episodes of the children's series Tim's Tactical Tips.
Shields received two Irish Writers' Guild Award nominations for his television work. His first produced feature film, The Hole in the Ground (2019), which he co-wrote with director Lee Cronin, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He co-wrote the screenplay for the horror comedy Abigail (2024) with Guy Busick; the film earned six IFTA Award nominations, including one for Best Script.
