Biography
Steve Shagan (1927–2015) was an American novelist, screenwriter and film producer. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he began his career as a stagehand and publicist before producing episodes and films in the Tarzan series in the 1960s. He later concentrated on writing.
Shagan wrote the screenplay for Save the Tiger (1973), which he also co-produced; the film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and a Writers Guild of America Award. He received a second Oscar nomination for the adapted screenplay of Voyage of the Damned (1976). Other screenplays include Hustle (1975), Nightwing (1979), The Formula (1980), The Sicilian (1987) and Primal Fear (1996). He wrote the teleplay for the television film Gotti (1996), for which he received an Emmy nomination, and published eight novels.
