Biography
Stuart Walker was a British production designer who worked in film and television for 50 years. He joined the BBC in 1959 in Schools Television and became a senior designer by 1968, creating sets for studio and location work across classic drama, Shakespeare, Doctor Who and contemporary plays.
Walker won two BAFTA awards for his BBC designs: for the 1983 television film An Englishman Abroad and the 1990 series Portrait of a Marriage. He received a further BAFTA nomination in 1994 for Scarlet and Black and a Royal Television Society award in 1988 for Road. His film credits include A Private Function (1984) and production design on The Clothes in the Wardrobe (1993). He was appointed a Royal Designer for Industry in 1989 and later taught at the National Film and Television School.
