Biography
Susan Bressman is a neurologist specialising in movement disorders. She holds the Mirken Family Chair and is Professor of Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She previously served as Chair of the Departments of Neurology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Mount Sinai West.
Bressman trained at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed her residency and fellowship at Columbia’s Neurological Institute. Her research has focused on identifying genetic causes of dystonia and Parkinson’s disease, characterising genotypes and phenotypes, and developing biomarkers. She has authored more than 240 peer-reviewed articles and received awards including the American Academy of Neurology’s Movement Disorder Research Prize and the Michael J. Fox Foundation’s Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia Prize.
In 2023 she appeared as herself, credited as Susan Bressman MD, in the documentary STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie.
