Biography
Sybille Schmitz was a German actress. Born Sybille Maria Christina Schmitz on 2 December 1909 in Düren, she attended acting school in Cologne and secured her first stage engagement at Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 1927. She made her film debut in Freie Fahrt (1928).
Her early screen roles included Elisabeth in G. W. Pabst's Diary of a Lost Girl (1929) and Léone in Carl Theodor Dreyer's Vampyr (1932). She played her first leading role in F.P.1 (1932) and went on to appear in numerous German films of the 1930s and 1940s, among them Fährmann Maria (1936) and Titanic (1943), in which she played Sigrid Olinsky.
Schmitz was married to screenwriter Harald G. Petersson from 1940 to 1945. She died in Munich on 13 April 1955.
