Biography
Takashi Miike is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, producer and actor. He was born on 24 August 1960 in Yao, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, and studied at the Japan Institute of the Moving Image (formerly the Yokohama Vocational School of Broadcast and Film), where he was guided by Shohei Imamura.
Miike began directing in 1991 and has since completed over 100 theatrical, video and television productions. His early work included direct-to-video releases and television productions before his first theatrically distributed film, Shinjuku Triad Society (1995). He gained international recognition with Audition (1999).
Other films include Ichi the Killer (2001), Visitor Q (2001), One Missed Call (2003), 13 Assassins (2010) and Blade of the Immortal (2017). His work spans genres including horror, yakuza films, period dramas, comedy and children's films.
