Biography
Tatyana Samoylova was a Soviet and Russian actress. She was born on 4 May 1934 in Leningrad and died on 4 May 2014 in Moscow. The daughter of actor Yevgeny Samoilov, she trained in ballet before studying acting at the M.S. Schepkin Higher Theatre School and the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts.
Samoylova made her film debut in The Mexican (1955). She became known for her leading role as Veronika in The Cranes Are Flying (1957), for which she received a special mention at the Cannes Film Festival. Other notable roles include Tanya in Letter Never Sent (1960), Sonya in Attack and Retreat (1964) and the title character in Anna Karenina (1967). She was named a People's Artist of Russia in 1993 and received a lifetime achievement award at the 2007 Moscow International Film Festival.
