Biography
Terry-Thomas, born Thomas Terry Hoar Stevens, was an English actor and comedian. He was born in Finchley, London, and educated at Ardingly College in Sussex. He made his uncredited film debut in The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) and performed in stage revues and ENSA shows during the Second World War.
He appeared in numerous British and American films from the 1950s onwards, including Private's Progress (1956), I'm All Right Jack (1959), It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965), How to Murder Your Wife (1965) and The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971). His voice role as Sir Hiss in the Disney animated film Robin Hood (1973) was among his later credits. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1971 and died in Godalming, Surrey, in 1990.
