Biography
Tim Krabbé is a Dutch novelist, journalist and screenwriter. Born in Amsterdam in 1943, he studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam before becoming a professional writer in 1967. He is also a chess player who competed in the Dutch championships and a former competitive cyclist.
Krabbé wrote the 1984 novella Het Gouden Ei (published in English as The Golden Egg or The Vanishing), on which the 1988 Dutch film Spoorloos (international title The Vanishing) was based. He co-wrote the screenplay with director George Sluizer. The story was remade in English in 1993, again directed by Sluizer. His other novels include De Renner (The Rider, 1978) and De Grot (The Cave, 1997).
His brother Jeroen Krabbé is an actor and film director. Krabbé maintains a website on chess curiosities.
