Biography
Tina Engel is a German actress. Born on 6 April 1950 in Hannover, she trained at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover from 1967 to 1970. She began her career on stage, appearing at theatres including the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landestheater, Stadttheater Bielefeld and Theater am Neumarkt Zürich, before joining the ensemble of the Berliner Schaubühne in 1976, where she remained until 2000. She has also directed for the stage since 2001.
Engel made her mark in film with the lead role in Margarethe von Trotta’s The Second Awakening of Christa Klages (1978), for which she received the Filmband in Gold. She played the young Anna Koljaiczek in Volker Schlöndorff’s The Tin Drum (1979) and appeared in Markus Imhoof’s The Boat Is Full (1981). Her later screen credits include roles in Jungle Child (2011) and numerous television series and films, among them episodes of Tatort (Scene of the Crime).
