Biography
Tony Morphett was an Australian screenwriter. Born Anthony David Morphett on 10 March 1938 in Granville, New South Wales, he began his career as a journalist with the Daily Telegraph and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation before becoming a freelance writer in 1968.
He wrote or co-wrote seven feature films, including the screenplay for The Last Wave (1977) with Peter Weir and Petru Popescu. Morphett created or co-created several Australian television series, among them Dynasty, Certain Women, Blue Heelers and Water Rats. He also contributed to mini-series such as Bangkok Hilton (1989) and series including Heartbreak High (1994). He died on 2 June 2018 in Katoomba, New South Wales.
