Biography
Tonya Pinkins is an American actress and filmmaker. Born on 30 May 1962 in Chicago, Illinois, she trained in acting at the Goodman Theatre Young People's Program while at high school and later studied at Columbia College Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University and California Western School of Law.
She is known for her extensive stage work, winning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in Jelly's Last Jam (1992) and receiving further Tony nominations for Play On! and Caroline, or Change. On television she has played Livia Frye in the soap opera All My Children and appeared in series including 24 (2009), Gotham (2015–2016) and Hostages (2013) as Beth Nix. Film credits include Enchanted (2007) and The Book of Henry (2017).
