Biography
Trevor D. Rhone was a Jamaican writer, playwright and filmmaker. Born in Kingston on 24 March 1940, he grew up in Bellas Gate, Saint Catherine, and was educated at St Jago High School. He studied drama on scholarship at Rose Bruford College in England in the early 1960s before returning to Jamaica to teach and begin writing for the stage.
Rhone co-wrote the screenplay for the film The Harder They Come (1972) with director Perry Henzell. His other notable works include the play and film Smile Orange (1971 play; 1974 film), Old Story Time (1981) and One Love (2003). He also wrote and directed several other films and plays that drew on Jamaican life and dialect.
Rhone received the Commander of the Order of Distinction from Jamaica and other awards including the Musgrave Gold Medal. He died in Kingston on 15 September 2009.
