Biography
Tully Marshall was an American character actor. Born William Phillips in Nevada City, California, he began his stage career in San Francisco in 1883 and appeared in numerous Broadway productions from 1887. He made his film debut in 1914 and worked steadily in both silent and sound films until his death.
Marshall is known for roles including the High Priest of Bel in D. W. Griffith's Intolerance (1916), Zeke in The Big Trail (1930), Gerstenkorn in Grand Hotel (1932), the Managing Editor in Scarface (1932), Professor Robinson in Ball of Fire (1941) and Alvin Brewster in This Gun for Hire (1942). He was married to screenwriter and playwright Marion Fairfax from 1899 until his death.
