Biography
Ulf Brantås is a Swedish cinematographer born on 6 March 1957 in Vänersborg. He began his career at Roy Andersson Filmproduktion, where he worked on short films by Björn Runge between 1985 and 1989, and later photographed several of Runge’s feature films including Harry och Sonja (1996), Om jag vänder mig om (2003) and Happy End (2011).
His breakthrough came in 1989 with Carl Gustaf Nykvist’s Kvinnorna på taket, for which he shared the European Film Award for best cinematography. Brantås has had a long collaboration with director Lukas Moodysson, serving as director of photography on Show Me Love (1998), Together (2000), Lilya 4-ever (2002) and We Are the Best! (2013). He received a Guldbagge Award for Lilya 4-ever.
His other credits include Stuart: A Life Backwards (2007), The Wife (2017) and episodes of series such as Love & Anarchy (2020) and Quicksand (2019). He is a member of the Swedish Society of Cinematographers.
