Biography
Urs Althaus is a Swiss actor. Born on 25 February 1956 in Herrliberg, he grew up in Altdorf in the canton of Uri. He began his career as a model in the 1970s, becoming the first Black model to appear on the cover of the American edition of GQ in 1977, and worked for designers including Yves Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein and Armani.
Althaus moved into acting in the early 1980s. He played the Brazilian footballer Aristoteles in the Italian comedy L'allenatore nel pallone (1984) and its 2008 sequel, and appeared as Venantius in Jean-Jacques Annaud's The Name of the Rose (1986). Other credits include Arrapaho (1984) and Warrior of the Lost World (1983). He has also worked as a modelling agent and published an autobiography, Ich der Neger, in 2009.
