Biography
Ursula Patzak is a costume designer. Born in Munich, she studied scenography at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna and began her career in 1991 as an assistant to Moidele Bickel at the Salzburg Festival.
She has worked extensively in theatre and opera in Italy, with a long collaboration since 2001 with director Mario Martone on productions including several Rossini operas and works at La Scala. Patzak entered film in 2010 with Martone’s Noi credevamo (We Believed), for which she won a David di Donatello and Ciak d’oro. She has since designed costumes for Leopardi (2014), Capri-Revolution (2018), The King of Laughter (2021), Nostalgia (2022) and Without Blood (2025), directed by Angelina Jolie. She has received four David di Donatello awards and three Ciak d’oro awards.
