Biography
Valda Aviks is a British actress and soprano. Born in 1945 in a refugee camp in Germany to Latvian parents, her family later moved to the United States. She studied at the University of Kansas before moving to Canada.
Aviks was an original cast member of the 1972 Toronto production of Godspell, alongside performers including Victor Garber, Eugene Levy and Martin Short. She later appeared in the West End and elsewhere in musicals such as Cats, Les Misérables, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Funny Girl.
Her screen credits include the role of Mellissa Rickman in Nightbreed (1990), a German Woman in Doctor Who (2008), the Crone in Les Misérables: 25th Anniversary in Concert (2010), and appearances in Little Britain (2003) and Sparks and Embers (2015). She features as herself in the 2025 documentary You Had to Be There: How the Toronto Godspell Ignited the Comedy Revolution....
