Biography
Vera-Ellen (born Vera-Ellen Rohe) was an American dancer and actress. She began dancing as a child and became one of the youngest members of the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. She made her Broadway debut in 1939 in the musical Very Warm for May and appeared in several stage productions before moving to film.
Her screen debut came in 1945 in Wonder Man, opposite Danny Kaye. She is known for her dance partnerships with Gene Kelly in On the Town (1949), in which she played Ivy Smith, and with Fred Astaire in Three Little Words (1950) and The Belle of New York (1952). Other notable films include White Christmas (1954) and Love Happy (1949). She retired from acting in the late 1950s.
Vera-Ellen was born on 16 February 1921 in Norwood, Ohio, and died on 30 August 1981 in Los Angeles.
