Biography
Vittorio Taviani (1929–2018) was an Italian film director and screenwriter who collaborated throughout his career with his brother Paolo as the Taviani brothers.
Their films include Padre Padrone (1977), which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, The Night of the Shooting Stars (1982), for which they shared writing and directing credits and won the Grand Prix du Jury at Cannes, Kaos (1984) and Caesar Must Die (2012), which won the Golden Bear at Berlin. They began as journalists in San Miniato, Tuscany, before entering cinema in the early 1960s, initially working with Joris Ivens and Valentino Orsini.
Vittorio Taviani died in Rome in April 2018.
