Biography
Vladimir Pavlovich Balashov was a Soviet Russian actor. He was born on 10 July 1920 in Izhevskoye, Ryazan Governorate, and died on 23 December 1996 in Moscow.
He trained at the actors' school attached to Mosfilm studio from 1937 to 1941. His early screen roles included parts in The Oppenheim Family (1938) and The Artamonov Business (1941). He appeared as Pyotr Volynets in Sergei Eisenstein's Ivan the Terrible, Part I (1944) and Ivan the Terrible, Part II: The Boyars' Plot (1958).
Balashov received the Stalin Prize, first class, in 1951 for his portrayal of Mily Balakirev in Mussorgsky (1950). He was named an Honoured Artist of the RSFSR in 1955. He worked at the Theatre-Studio of the Film Actor and later at the Gorky Film Studio.
