Biography
Vladimir Nabokov was a Russian-born novelist and screenwriter. He wrote the novel Lolita, first published in 1955, and the screenplay for its 1962 film adaptation directed by Stanley Kubrick.
Nabokov was born in Saint Petersburg in 1899 and died in Montreux, Switzerland, in 1977. After leaving Russia following the 1917 revolution, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, and lived in Germany and France before moving to the United States in 1940. He became a professor of Russian literature at Cornell University and later settled in Switzerland.
His other novels include Pale Fire (1962) and Ada (1969). Several of his works have been adapted for the screen, including The Luzhin Defence (2000) and Despair (1978).
