Biography
Vlastimil Brodský was a Czech actor who appeared in more than one hundred films between the 1940s and 2001. He was born on 15 December 1920 in Hrušov near Ostrava, Czechoslovakia, and died on 20 April 2002 in Slunečná, Czech Republic. He began his career on stage in the 1940s, studying under E. F. Burian and performing with the Vinohrady Theatre in Prague.
Brodský is known for his role as Counselor Zednicek in Closely Watched Trains (1966). Other notable performances include the title role in Jacob the Liar (1974), for which he received the Silver Bear for Best Actor, King Hyacint in the television series Arabela (1980), and František Hána in Babí léto (Autumn Spring, 2001), which earned him a Czech Lion award. He also appeared in When the Cat Comes (1963) and Larks on a String (1969).
He was married to actress Jana Brejchová from 1964 to 1980; their daughter Tereza Brodská and son Marek Brodský are also actors.
