Biography
Wallace Reid was an American actor in silent films. Born William Wallace Halleck Reid in St. Louis, Missouri, he appeared as Jeff, the blacksmith in The Birth of a Nation (1915) and had an uncredited role in Intolerance (1916), both directed by D. W. Griffith.
Reid began his film career in 1910 and appeared in numerous shorts before signing with producer Jesse L. Lasky. He starred in over 60 films for the Famous Players company, later Paramount Pictures, often in action roles including several race-car thrillers such as The Roaring Road (1919), Double Speed (1920), Excuse My Dust (1920) and Too Much Speed (1921). He married actress Dorothy Davenport in 1913.
Reid died in Los Angeles on 18 January 1923, aged 31.
