Biography

Wendell Wellman is an American actor and screenwriter. Born on 20 December 1944 in Waterloo, Iowa, he began his career as a musician before developing an interest in theatre during graduate studies at UCLA. He studied acting with Lee Strasberg and Peggy Feury at the Strasberg Institute and the Loft Theatre.

Wellman made his film debut in The Klansman (1974) as Alan Bascomb. As a writer, he co-wrote the screenplay for Firefox (1982) with Alex Lasker for director Clint Eastwood. He appeared in Sudden Impact (1983) as Tyrone while contributing uncredited revisions to the script. Other acting credits include Sommersby (1993) as Travis. He has taught screenwriting at UCLA and co-founded the West End Theatre Group.
