Biography
Wendy Hughes (29 July 1952 – 8 March 2014) was an Australian actress. She trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney and performed with the Melbourne Theatre Company before making her film debut in Petersen (1974).
Hughes was among the leading performers in the revival of Australian cinema in the 1970s and 1980s. Her credits include Newsfront (1978), My Brilliant Career (1979) as Aunt Helen, Lonely Hearts (1982), which began a long collaboration with director Paul Cox, Careful, He Might Hear You (1983) and Paradise Road (1997). On television she appeared in Homicide: Life on the Street (1993) as Dr Carol Blythe and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (2012) as Adele Freeman.
She also worked in the United States, including the film Happy New Year (1987).
