Biography
Werner Bohne (1895–1940) was a German cinematographer active during the Weimar Republic and the early Nazi era. Born on 25 September 1895 in Rudna, he began working in film around 1921 as an assistant and camera operator, later becoming a chief cinematographer from 1925.
In the 1930s he contributed to numerous productions, including Gold (1934), Amphitryon (1935), Allotria (1936) and Der Mustergatte (1937). He was one of the cinematographers on Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will (1935).
Bohne was killed in action on 9 April 1940 in the Oslofjord, Norway, while filming the propaganda documentary Kampf um Norwegen – Feldzug 1940 aboard the cruiser Blücher during the German invasion.
