Biography
Westbrook Van Voorhis was an American actor and narrator, best known for his authoritative voice work in radio and film documentaries. Born Cornelius Westbrook Van Voorhis on 21 September 1903 in New Milford, Connecticut, he attended the United States Naval Academy before entering broadcasting in the late 1920s.
He became the narrator for the long-running The March of Time radio and newsreel series, delivering the signature sign-off “Time... marches on!”. His other narration credits include the 1939 film The Roaring Twenties, the television series Justice (1954–1956) and Panic! (1957–1958), and several military and documentary films. Van Voorhis also appeared on screen as TV Person to Person in the 1961 comedy The Ladies Man.
He died of cancer on 13 July 1968 in New Milford, aged 64.
