Biography
Willis Goldbeck (24 October 1898 – 17 September 1979) was an American screenwriter, film director and producer. Born in New York City, he worked as a journalist before entering the film industry as a screenwriter in the early 1920s. He wrote for more than 40 films between 1923 and 1962.
Goldbeck is credited with the screenplay for Freaks (1932). At MGM he wrote most of the Dr. Kildare series, beginning with Young Dr. Kildare (1938), and directed several entries in the series and its spin-offs. He also directed other films, including Ten Tall Men (1951), and in the mid-1950s turned to producing. He served as writer and producer on The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), after which he retired from films.
Goldbeck graduated from Worcester Academy. He died in Sag Harbor, New York.
