Biography
Wu Tianming (5 December 1939 – 4 March 2014) was a Chinese film director and producer. He was born in Sanyuan County, Shaanxi Province, and died in Beijing.
He studied film directing at the Beijing Film Academy in the mid-1970s and later served as head of the Xi'an Film Studio from 1983. In that role he produced films by younger directors, including Tian Zhuangzhuang's The Horse Thief (1986) and Zhang Yimou's Red Sorghum (1987).
Wu directed several features himself, among them River Without Buoys (1983), Old Well (1986) and The King of Masks (1995). He received Golden Rooster Awards for best director for the latter two films.
