Biography
Yoshihide Otomo (also credited as Yoshihide Ohtomo or Ôtomo) is a Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist. Born in Yokohama in 1959, he moved to Fukushima as a child and later studied under improvisational guitarist Masayuki Takayanagi in Tokyo.
He first gained recognition in the 1990s as leader of the experimental group Ground Zero and has composed scores for numerous films and television productions. His credits include The Blue Kite (1994), Inu-Oh (2022), We Made a Beautiful Bouquet (2021) and the series After the Quake (2025).
Otomo received the Japan Record Award for his work on the NHK drama Amachan (2013). He founded Project FUKUSHIMA! after the 2011 earthquake and was awarded the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts in 2012.
