Biography
Yoshiko Kuga (also credited as Kuga Yoshiko) was a Japanese actress. Born Haruko Koga on 21 January 1931 in Tokyo, she died on 9 June 2024.
She joined Toho studios in 1946 while at Gakushuin Junior High School and made her screen debut in 1947 in the omnibus film Four Love Stories. In the 1950s she worked independently, appearing in productions for Shochiku directed by Keisuke Kinoshita and in films by Kenji Mizoguchi (The Woman in the Rumor, 1954), Yasujirō Ozu (Equinox Flower, 1958) and Tadashi Imai (An Inlet of Muddy Water, 1953). She also appeared in Drunken Angel (1948), The Idiot (1951), Good Morning (1959) and Cruel Story of Youth (1960). From the 1970s she worked mainly in television and on stage.
Kuga was married to actor Akihiko Hirata from 1961 until his death in 1984. She played the Prime Minister's Wife in Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989).
