Biography
Yoshinobu Nishioka was a Japanese production designer, art director and producer specialising in jidaigeki period dramas. He joined Daiei Kyoto Studios in 1948 and received his first art director credit on Tenpo Suikoden (1952). After the studio's bankruptcy he co-founded Eizo Kyoto Productions.
Nishioka worked on numerous films including Gate of Hell (1953), An Actor's Revenge (1963), several entries in the Zatoichi and Lone Wolf and Cub series, The Twilight Samurai (2002) and The Hidden Blade (2004). He also produced some later projects and received Mainichi Film Awards for art direction and Japan Academy Prizes for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction.
