Biography
Yuri Klepikov was a Soviet and Russian screenwriter and actor. He was born in Chelyabinsk in 1935 and graduated from the journalism faculty of Moscow State University in 1960. He completed scriptwriting courses at the Higher Courses for Screenwriters and Directors in 1964 (workshop of E. I. Gabrilovich) and in 1967 at Lenfilm (workshop of G. M. Kozintsev).
Klepikov wrote screenplays for twelve films from 1966 onwards. His credits include The Story of Asya Klyachina, Who Loved but Did Not Marry (1966), Dauriya (1972), and the screenplay for Larisa Shepitko’s The Ascent (1977), adapted from Vasil Bykaŭ’s novella Sotnikov. He also appeared as an actor in several productions. He received the Nika Award in 1988 and served as a People’s Deputy of the USSR from 1989 to 1991.
Klepikov died in St Petersburg in 2021.
