Biography
Yuri Raksha (born Yuri Mefodievich Terebilov) was a Soviet production designer and painter. He trained at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) and worked for fifteen years as a production designer at Mosfilm.
Raksha is best known for his production design on Akira Kurosawa’s Dersu Uzala (1975) and Larisa Shepitko’s The Ascent (1977). He also contributed to earlier films, sometimes credited as Yu. Terebilov, and maintained a parallel career as a painter whose works are held in Russian galleries.
Born in Ufa in 1937, Raksha died in Moscow in 1980 at the age of 42.
