Biography
Yury Mefodyevich Solomin (also credited as Yuriy Solomin and Yuri Solomin) was a Soviet and Russian actor and director. He studied at the Shchepkin Theatrical School in Moscow and joined the troupe of the Maly Theatre in 1957, later serving as its artistic director from 1988 until his death.
Solomin appeared in numerous films, including The Red Tent (1969) as Felice Trojani, Akira Kurosawa’s Dersu Uzala (1975) as Vladimir Arsenyev, and An Ordinary Miracle (1978) as the innkeeper. He also directed for stage and screen and served as Minister of Culture of the RSFSR from 1990 to 1992. He received the title of People’s Artist of the USSR and numerous state awards.
