Biography
Yvon Rivard is a Canadian writer from Quebec, known primarily as a novelist and essayist. He has also worked as a screenwriter. Born in 1945 in Sainte-Thècle, Quebec, he studied literature at McGill University, the Sorbonne and Aix-Marseille University, where he completed a doctorate in 1971. He taught creative writing at McGill University from 1973 until his retirement in 2008.
Rivard received a Governor General’s Award for French-language fiction in 1986 for the novel Les silences du corbeau. His other novels include Le Milieu du jour (1995) and Le Siècle de Jeanne (2005). As a screenwriter he collaborated on the script for The Decline of the American Empire (1986) and wrote the screenplays for Blanche est la nuit (1989) and La vie fantôme (1992), the last of which earned a Genie Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
