Biography
Zdeněk Liška (16 March 1922 – 13 August 1983) was a Czech composer known primarily for his film scores. He studied composition and conducting at the Prague Conservatory, graduating in 1944, and began working at the Zlín Film Studios in 1945.
Liška composed music for numerous Czechoslovak films, including The Shop on Main Street (1965), Marketa Lazarová (1967), Ikarie XB-1 (1963), The Cremator (1969), The Valley of the Bees (1968) and Fruit of Paradise (1970). He scored several early shorts by Jan Švankmajer and worked extensively with directors of the Czech New Wave; he was among the most prolific and sought-after film composers in Czechoslovakia during the 1950s and 1960s.
