Biography
Adolphe Adam was a French composer born in Paris on 24 July 1803 and died there on 3 May 1856. He studied piano and composition at the Paris Conservatory and went on to write numerous comic operas and ballets.
He is best known for the ballets Giselle (1841) and Le Corsaire (1856), as well as the Christmas carol 'Cantique de Noël' ('O Holy Night'). His music from Giselle featured in the 1977 film The Turning Point.
