Biography
Akosua Busia is a Ghanaian actress, film director, author and songwriter. Born Akosua Gyamama Busia on 30 December 1966 in Accra, she is the daughter of former Ghanaian Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia. She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and began her acting career in the late 1970s.
Busia is known for playing Nettie Harris in The Color Purple (1985). Her other film roles include appearances in Rosewood (1997) and Tears of the Sun (2003). She has also worked as a director and is the author of the novel The Seasons of Beento Blackbird. She was married to director John Singleton from 1996 to 1997 and they have one daughter.
